Flashback Post: How Fashionista's Wear Denim on Denim
The denim on denim trend is nothing new. It's been a look I've loved for the past 4 years or so and it looks like this trend isn't going anywhere anytime. But we all need some help making this commonplace outfit a stylish one. I've got some tips on how to style the denim on denim trend like a true fashionista below.
1. Make it a Triple
Make it a triple denim look by adding on an additional layer of denim. To add a final touch of denim it may be an additional layer such as a jean jacket, shirt or vest. Or maybe a small touch such as a denim bag, sneakers, or baseball cap.
2. Believe in Textures
Change the entire look of a denim on denim entire by adding a cashmere cardigan, leather jacket, suede skirt, or satin blazer. Reach for something suede, leather, cashmere, silk, satin, wool, etc. Adding extreme textures to your look can change the entire appearance of your outfit.
3. Layer On the Accessories
By accessories I mean scarves, shiny rings, bold bracelets, statements necklaces, funky heels, chic watches and more! Add em on , stack em on!
4. Make it Your Own
Separate yourself from the crowd by adding unexpected touches and details to an on trend look. This is your chance to really show off your personality and style! Be it a great thrift find, or something with a feminine touch or maybe a pair of retro boots, go big or go home with the styling of this great trendy outfit.
How Your Clothing Could Be Making Your Depression Worse
2018 has been a tough but needed year when it comes to conversations surrounding mental health, depression and self care. This year has forced all of us to have more candid conversations about our feelings. See for me depression is not a new idea. Really as early as thirteen I started to understand how real depression is and its ramifications.
2018 has been a tough but needed year when it comes to conversations surrounding mental health, depression and self care. This year has forced all of us to have more candid conversations about our feelings. See for me depression is not a new idea. Really as early as thirteen I started to understand how real depression is and its ramifications. As a teenager I witnessed and experienced first hand a wide spectrum of different forms of depression. Even more so as an adult! So it is safe to say even with all of the pharmaceutical aids depression isn’t going away and will not be swept under the rug.
“But what the heck does fashion and clothing have to do with my depression Carla?” - honestly A LOT! I want you to think back on a day where you got dressed up, maybe a bit more than usual. I want you to think about how you felt when you walked past the mirror, how you felt when you received your eighth compliment for the day or how you felt when your boss asked you to be in the company photo. GOOD feelings right?! Imagine how it would feel on the flip side. Because often times depression makes us interested we may lose the desire to want to even try but science tells us to do it anyway! That’s right your periods of sadness, grief or depression may actually be made worse by your decision to dress based on your depressive state. So grabbing the grey sweatpants and the “I want everyone to know I don’t care about this” t-shirt can actually make you feel worse! Depression should not be ignored so by all means talk to someone, accept the prescription, take an extra 20 minutes picking your outfit for the day, find a new hobby, make plans with a friend when you’re off the clock, take a personal day and head to the beach for the day. There’s no one stop solution for the thoughts and feelings that these days may seem like they are holding you captive, but I urge you to take small steps to re-claim your life and your happiness.
Peace & Love,
Carla

Mastering Fashion in a Casual Work Environment.
We're all aware that how we're dressed positively impacts productivity as well as the perception of our contributions, credibility, and potential for growth by others. However, as many companies continue implementing relaxed dress codes, casual Fridays, and telecommuting, the advice to, “Dress for the job you want,” though effective, can be confusing.
If you work in an environment where business attire is the only attire, try these tips to refresh your work wardrobe. But for those of you in an office that has casual Fridays (or causal every days), here’s a bit of style inspiration that will keep you looking professional to secure your upward mobility:
IN THE OFFICE:
Be intentional with your casual attire by balancing relaxed pieces with tailored ones. Think dark pants/denim with blazers and jackets or pencil skirts with casual blouses.
WORKING FROM HOME:
We recommend ditching the PJs and dressing as if you were going into the office. However, if optimal comfort is your top priority, lean toward soft, linen blend fabrics that accompany athleisure, jumpsuits and paperbag-waist pants. Focus structuring the top half of your ensemble so you're always ready for that impromptu video conference.
Regardless of your work environment, what’s the biggest thing you struggle with when getting ready for work that we can help you with? Let us know in the comments!

Date Night Style Guide: First Date
Butterflies in your stomach, nervous laughter, checking your lipgloss in the screen of your phone as you pretend someone just texted you, trying not to stumble in your heels, anticipating that first kiss... let's face it, we've all been there.
First date jitters aren't cute but with these outfit tips below, we'll make sure you look AMAZING and feel just as confident as you get ready for your first date.
1. Keep it classy
There's nothing worse than showing up on a first date with your bra strap hanging out and your jeans fitting way too tight. Keep it classy ladies. This is your first impression. These looks are for the woman who wants to show their date that they're sophisticated, educated, and confident. This woman is showing off classic looks in black and white, clean lines, menswear with a twist, and designer-wear with a minimalist and modern aesthetic.
2. Casual-chic
These looks are for the more casual girl. Maybe you're going to the park for a picnic for your first date or hitting up the zoo. For a more casual date, choose florals, a flowing dress, or a two-piece set.
3. EDGY
If you're the woman who is usually at a hipster coffee shop writing her next novel or seeing a concert downtown - these looks are for you. This woman isn't afraid to put on a leather jacket, band tee, or wear ripped up jeans or even sneakers on her first date. She's edgy and rock n' roll meets overall girlboss.
4. GO ALL OUT GIRL
This is for the woman who is getting ready to head to an upscale bar and fancy restaurant. She's sporting her best dress and she's feeling bold. Chose a color like red or a satin material for an extra luxurious effect and make sure your heels are high.
Ladies, the most important thing you need to remember before getting ready to head out on your first date - is be YOURSELF. That may sound "cliche" but sometimes we get so nervous we forget.
Make sure the outfit you choose not only suits the venue you're going to but also suits YOU and YOUR personality.
Now get out there and slay!

Tailored for Tinder: How to Stop The Left Swipe
If you’re one of the millions of people on Tinder, you know nothing illustrates the power of first impressions quite like the left or right swipe. With such limited information to take in when making a swipe decision, your profile photos could make all the difference in who you match with.
Read on to find out how to get the matches you want through your photos:
Dress for the First Date:
We’ll talk in more detail about date attire next week, but for your profile, choose a photo that represents you in a way that your potential match knows exactly what they can expect to see on a first date. Ditch the sunglasses and hats for the first photo (at least) to lessen the chance of surprises about your appearance once you meet a match in person.
Share What You Love:
If you have at least one hobby that you love, you are naturally more interesting and attractive, so show it off! But do so carefully by sharing with intention— the goal is to spark another’s interest and curiosity about you.
Post Your Best Self:
You know, that one photo you took recently that you loved and shared immediately. Happiness is contagious, confidence is sexy and people will want to swipe right just to be around you.
What Not to Post:
By keeping these 5 dating profile photo, "don'ts," in mind, you can avoid an immediate rejection while staying true to yourself-
1. Blurry and/or poor quality photos: If you have to question it, the quality probably isn't good enough. Pro tip: Natural light is key.
2. Mirror Selfies: If you absolutely have to take a mirror selfie, be intentional about what is being reflected in the background (no toilets, clutter, etc.). Asking a friend to take the photo for you is usually the best option.
3. Photos with filters, stickers, and added text: People want to see what you naturally look like. Cropping a photo and adding a little light is okay, but the only filter you need is your smile!
4. Group Photos: This is your profile, so you should be the focus. A sports team photo or one of you and your family on a mountain can be great icebreakers, so save it for the date.
5. Wrinkled, stained, or ill-fitting clothing: Show that you put value in looking presentable to potential dates. If you need help in this department, that's what we're here for.
Style Adventures: Cuba Edition
Vacations are so necessary, and it truly took me becoming a working adult who could no longer relish in the idea of a summer vacation to really understand that. So when I learned that Cuba was officially open to the US for travel, I jumped to book a trip, any trip that would allow me to get a taste of Cuba. Before landing in Cuba I was warned of all of the cobblestone so, no heels! I know, I know, so out of my element but I was committed to bringing the drama that is Cuba and it's style. Cue the off the shoulder canary yellow top I purchased just for this trip.
Just a few tips for Cuba travel because so many people have been interested
- The sun is really intense, even compared to Florida, this sun was just a bit hotter so please wear a hat AND have tons of sunblock.
- Like I mentioned there's tons of cobblestone through out the city of Havana. Being from Boston I knew that meant you need to be ready to trip over something at any given moment, so please wear something flat or pretty close to flat unless you want to be face to face with the ground.
- There's pretty limited A/C, actually everywhere we visited in Havana didn't have any A/C. Definitely possible to go without it, but I just want to give you fair warning. Dress accordingly.
- Brush up on your Spanish. Of course, it's Spanish speaking country and for the most part we were able to communicate with the vendors, etc. But it really couldn't hurt to brush up on your key Spanish words and phrases.
But enough of the chit-chat I just want to share the visuals with you. Hope you enjoy!
